Bio
Rosa Garcia is the sole owner of Mott Haven Bar and Grill, a local favorite among Bronx
residents known for its international flavor inspiration. Rosa opened up the restaurant and bar back in 2013, shattering many stereotypes and overcoming hurdles as the only female bar owner in the Bronx.
Rosa is known for her entrepreneurial drive, commitment to her community, and strong work ethic. Since the age of 18, she has been independent and worked in kitchens and restaurants for most of her teenage years, helping her mother, who worked as a waitress. As a young child, Rosa remembers waking up to fetch water from the well, helping her grandmother feed the chickens, and making the family meals in her native Dominican Republic. Her enthusiasm and dedication fuel her undeterred passion for education as she worked her way through college, becoming the first in her family to earn a degree.
In addition to her relief efforts during the Pandemic, Rosa has served as a reliable community supporter. She corals local developers, landlords, and business owners to support her annual community initiatives. Every year Mott Haven Bar & Grill reaches out to more than 2,000 people and gives out 500+ turkeys to families who come into the restaurant’s backroom to celebrate the holidays. Ms. Garcia has been named one of the Top 25 Bronx Women Entrepreneurs, Top 20 Latin Entrepreneurs, and Top 25 Bronx Influential Women.
Her reputation and work have gotten the attention of business owners and developers near and far. She has become a highly sought-after restaurant consultant. Most recently, she helped open Kreate Café, a restaurant nestled inside a hotel, where she consulted on every aspect, including menu pricing, POS systems, staff training, opening, and closing lists.
Rosa’s commitment to the community is evident in every aspect of her life. She is an active member of the South Bronx Alliance, the only woman mentor for the Bronx Boy Scouts troop, among other titles.
